CROSS-CONTENT DISCUSSION: Fingers, Ears, and Dogtags

Post by Risewild » Wed Dec 26, 2012 1:05 am

Well I was playing and then I thought of something (as it usually happens). I know that we want to keep NV as untouched as possible, but I was wondering if we could have in NV a Regulator HQ and a Contract Killer one too, I never played with an evil character so I don't know about the assassin one but in the regulator HQ Sonora Cruz says that the regulators are everywhere and their style is so cowboy-like that they seem to fit NV quite well, maybe having a character that says the same stuff as Sonora Cruz so we could use the same voice files or something.

Edit: Changed title from "another of my suggestions" to "CROSS-CONTENT DISCUSSION: Fingers, Ears, and Dogtags" and moved forums to the "News" forum with the other cross-content threads.

For reference, in Fallout 3 you could collect Fingers on evil characters and Ears on good characters and turn them in for a reward.  In Fallout New Vegas you could collect NCR Dogtags and Legion Ears.

I'd like that, somewhere to turn ears and fingers in NV without dredging all the way to the DC Area.

Agreed.  Moved this thread and changed the title accordingly, see first post.

I am all for having a regulator and contract killer hangout in NV. I would rather not reuse voice files and am looking into how to record and implement our own voice files.

For the record, the NCR guy wanted legion ears, the legion guy wanted NCR dogtags. I agree that the regulators would take Legion ears.

You can just assign the same dialog to a different NPC.  So long as they both use the same voice type it will reuse the voice files.

If you want to get fancy, you can always have them communicate via Intercomm/Telephone.  Having an NPC communicate in that way allows for the voice files to be garbled/modulated automatically, which could either make it seem like a long distance call or like you're giving them to another person entirely.  Think someone communicating through one of those vendor window things/etc.

The Regulators in Fallout 3

Post by Ein » Mon Oct 28, 2013 4:03 pm

The Regulators in Fallout 3 are... Weird. They're not really related to the already existing group in Fallout 1 who were a villainous corrupt private police force in the Boneyard. But they kind of got crammed in as an awkward reference to what came before (as part of Fallout 3's general "See! Look! It's still Fallout! Really guys! Cannibals! Cannibals EVERYWHERE! Have some Gecko on a stick!" approach.)

It would probably just make more thematic sense to just have someone over in Westside that handles those kind of Bounties, as they have more of a vested interest in what the vast Majority of the "evil" guys would be considering they're right there on the front lines with the Fiends but don't have the direct proximity to McCarran or The Strip's defense to as readily defend themselves.

I see what you mean, the DC regulators are good guys while the west coast people are complete dildos. I know mods aren't cannon, but I still like the explanation that is given in New Vegas Bounties as to why they are different.

I'm not sure I like the idea of a group based in DC coming over to the West Coast... apart from all the valid reasons brought up here already, it just seems odd to have the DC group in Vegas, as opposed to the semi-evil Boneyard group.

I do not plan on moving the regulators/littlehorn to NV. Or any version of them.

So, we're talking just a similar kind of mechanic? That I wouldn't mind. After all, there is already kind of one - it'd be nice to have a proper reason to go out fiend hunting.
