Steam Converting FNV Files????

Post by Risewild » Sat Dec 29, 2012 10:40 am

Ok I don't like Steam because only two of my games that require steam seem to work, but that's not the issue here.

After I reinstalled TTW I go all happy and eager to play and I get a Steam message saying this:

"Steam needs to convert the game content for "Fallout New Vegas" to a new, more efficient format. This will require an internet connection and a few minutes time."

O_o What the hell is this? wont this mess up TTW installation? I just spent alot of time to install TTW and now this happens Ò,.,Ó GRRRRR

Is anyone having this issue? is this normal? (I don't have much experience with Steam like I said only two of my Steam games work so I have no idea what to do).

But I have my FNV totally

Post by Risewild » Sat Dec 29, 2012 9:23 pm

But I have my FNV totally updated/installed and also backed up cheeky No way I would be installing FNV from scratch so many times. And yes I bypassed that by using NVSE after having steam opened. What annoys me is that I have the option to never automatically update FNV files and it still did it anyway, I paused the update downloading but I can't seem to find a way to cancel it permanently indecision. Also what I am worried is what if steam is changing the files of the game into some weird types and that will mess up the installation of TTW in the future or something, I can already see lots of users coming here after installing FNV through steam and say that the installer doesn't work or something if the game files are changed or something. And be careful because steam will update FNV in the first chance it gets luckily it wont let us play by showing the message that the game is being updated, that allowed me to pause it.

It's just steam converting to

It's just steam converting to the new content system. All files are the same as before, all mods work the same. I installed TTW yesterday after the conversion and have not had any problems with the installer or playing TTW.

After redacted_name told me

After redacted_name told me what was happening I went with the update I will try the game now.

I did noticed that it said it was 9.2GB the first time it was downloading but after I continued the download it only got a couple of Kb's o_O that's what scared me 9.2GB update, that's more than the actual game .

And to clarify I don't hate Steam-steam I hate "my steam" steam has some great and useful stuff but for some reason with most games that require steam they just don't work well on my computer which makes me hate it

I saw the 9.2 GB remaining,

I saw the 9.2 GB remaining, thought 'screw this', and paused it. Then the next day after switching to another data directory I just let it finish and it was like 1 minute and done. When I switched back to the original data directory, one of the DLC esm files was missing ;)
