When you play a lot of quest and/or main quest. It would lead to increased file size.

I would normally keep a 20 save folder. When 20 save reach, I would rar the save folder, and start saving against the oldest file first. When it come to full circle rar it again.

For what it's worth, I'm about 30 hours in and my save is 36MB. I'm getting 0.5 second stalls when saving. It's still technically playable but the save stutter is really annoying.

You could try lStewieAl's mod that was just released today and see if that helps:
ActorCause Save Bloat Fix

You have to load your save and then save the game and the fix should apply itself to your new save file.

If your save is that large and it takes a long time to load, thats because some mod is probably using quest stages as subroutines (old mods like PN do that) and they will just continue to bloat and eventually your save will not load.

I just finished up with the game. It was 38MB at the end. Took about 50 hours. I'm wondering how that file size compares with others. Like I said before, I'm chalking it up to playing with 3x the enemies. I don't think the game cleans up the corpses from many of the areas around the world.
