Music Addition (Capital Wasteland Only)

Post by IAreBob » Wed Apr 03, 2019 2:45 am

After fiddling around in xEdit for unknown hours, I figured out how the playlists in New Vegas work. That's after I decided I wanted more than just vanilla music. So I spent even more unknown hours adding (then accidentally deleting) music from several Fallout 3 mods to TTW.

It only works for Capital Wasteland and it adds to the FO3 soundtrack, this will never change.
If anyone wishes to exert the effort needed to include this properly in Mojave, feel free to do so.

You'll need to use all of the soundtracks if you use the main version, otherwise you'll be going with no music for extended periods of time.

With all my music merged mods, I have several user-end instructions. You absolutely must follow these to use the mod.

First off, you'll need to download some mods (absolutely cannot host them here).
Go ahead and download (with MO2, it's what I did) STALKER music collection, Classic Fallout Music, DV's Custom Soundtrack Project, Rohan's Music Expansion, and Digital Nightmare (get the two updates for DN as well). I will not add OTEOYN as that mod is ridiculously large.

Since most of these mods originally replace the music with their own tracks, you'll have to rename some folders.

In STALKER's tree, you need to rename Base to stBase, Battle to stBattle, Dungeon to stDungeon, and Explore to stExplore.
In Classic Fallout's tree, you need to rename Base to cfBase, Dungeon to cfDungeon, Explore to cfExplore, and Public to cfPublic.
In Digital Nightmare, you need to rename Base to dmBase, Battle to dmBattle, Dungeon to dmDungeon, Explore to dmExplore, and Public to dmPublic.
In DV's tree, you need to rename Base to dvBase, Battle to dvBattle, Dungeon to dvDungeon, Explore to dvExplore, and Public to dvPublic.
In Rohan's tree, you need to rename Base to roBase, Battle to roBattle, Dungeon to roDungeon, Explore to roExplore, and Public to roPublic.

As for any Special folders, Tranquility Lanes, Finales, or Tensions, do what you want with them. This mod doesn't use them. Finales would be more effort than I am willing to go through.

Now that the hard part's over, you just install and use my plugin and it'll add all those mods to the music playlist. However, before you blast your eardrums out, I HIGHLY recommend running all tracks, including the FO3 vanilla ones provided by TTW (NOT the Endgame, Special, and Tension folders), through MP3Gain to level out the volumes. I personally use 92.6 as the "normal" volume.

Here's the plugin.

I've created five plugins with only one of the soundtracks in them, so if you only want to use one mod, you can use one of these plugins. Do NOT use more than one, or any of them with the original mod. You will have issues. They are here.

I will not make specific versions with only two or three soundtracks included. You can make one yourself by using the main version and deleting music tracks from the Media Location Controller tree in FNVEdit.

Awesome pack! Is there a way to possibly boost the rates in which alternative battle themes play? I almost exclusively hear vanilla's.

The only way I can think of is to just duplicate the tracks in the playlists. You know, the more new tracks there are, the lower the chance for vanilla. Of course, I don't even know if New Vegas plays the music in order of the playlist or randomly.

Anyway, since they're combat tracks, I don't think repeating tracks will be very common (you're in combat for maybe 3-4 minutes max?). Of course if the combat lasts a lot longer, repetition will be more likely. I'll see what I can do in a couple of days, work gives me little free time.

I don't hear anything, instead complete silence.
Does someone know how to solve this issue (music not playing)?

I can guarantee it's on your end. One or more of the mods you're using are breaking it (that is if you've installed my mod correctly).

Yes, sry about the stutters, those were (mostly) gone after restarting my system.
About the music: Now that I look at it, I have the Fo3 Main Title added in. Maybe it's that one?

Having a music file like that will have no affect.

Even after disabling those other sound files, it doesn't work. :/ Only difference: When I disable the main menu replacer the main menu music from your mod plays but ingame it just plays Vanilla. It doesn't have the problem of playing NOTHING like before, but still I can't get the modded music.
Still should be on my end, but I even leveled the volume out with mp3gain and named all the folder with "cfXY" at the beginning.
Or should I name every FILE "cf"?
(Only asking about Classic Fallout Soundtrack, I'm only using that one)

I didn't touch the main menu. If it plays anything else, that's what you replaced.

All you do is change the folder names like I described in the OP.

There's not really any help I can provide in regards to the mod music not playing. It worked fine when I made the mod, it worked when I played the games months ago. If it isn't working, I would say either the tracks are corrupted or you have another mod taking over the music.
