Why are even rare light armors ruined stat wise?

Post by Ragnor » Thu Feb 23, 2023 1:45 pm

Vault 34 light armor (some of the best in the game) became some of the worst instead of 16 DT has DT 3 and DR 12?(its weaker than normal light armors even) if it was really as better than other in vanilla it should be closer to DT 8 and DR 16.
Ulyses duster DT 6 and DR 24 barely being better marginally than leather armors?
Gecko based armors are as weak as normal leather armors?
What is the point of such nerfs except to ditch light armors completely?
Having low DT and still low HP makes the break 3x more often than in vanilla...making them nuissance to wear unless you sneak...as player who almost never uses sneak mechanics in bethesda game on purpose - this is pure nuissance creator IMHO

Why did metal blaster crit damage got nerfed from 27 to 9 making it not evne reliant on crits but just hot garbage..added DR on top of damage reduced to some enemies makes it total waste of time and cells.

I look at the balance of these things again, but there is progression in the game. There are much better light armors too. Also the perks actually function unlike vanilla, like Travel Light etc. Your viewpoint on individual things is narrow when you don't consider all the other game changes and fixes.

Helps if you don't go "why do dis" in an accussatory way, I'll take it more serious instead of just ignoring you.

I don't recall nerfing the Metal Blaster, I will look at it. It has a high crit chance mult and sneak crits already do 5x damage in NV. Also it has many perks that it did not in Fallout 3 and also ammo variants that reduce DT/DR and increase damage.

Before you complain about shotguns, I fixed the critical damage they do so they work as they did in F3 again. I made the pellet count in the ammo instead of the weapon which fixes this problem. Unfortunately I can't do that for the energy weapon ammo because they have varying beams from 1 to 7.

Both games were entirely rebalanced because two games and 9 DLCs worth of items with lots of overlapping.

Since DT is now applied BEFORE DR in the engine like in Fallout 2 (thanks to JIPs bugfix), as is proper, DR is favored over DT in general for armors. DT is stopping power and DR is overall damage resistance, stacked together they are more effective than you think. What separates them is their effects and other stats, instead of microincremental D&D based that sawyer did. This game is based on GURPS, not D&D.

Thanks for explanation Roy!I m sorry for accusatory tone!
Take a look maybe i m not seeing whole picture! Also miniguns do ignore DT but they dont reduce DR with AP ammo.Is that wanted change or something to be changed in future?

I rarely if ever use sneak in any bethesda game(unless i must). For instance in point lookout i had to use it on those swam folk because they deal magical damage. But would prefer not to use it as part of damage, prefer direct combat with enemies.

In last few years i didnt take 1 sneak perk.Prefer head on even on challenge runs unless i must(Dead money for instance in some cases)

Miniguns also have increased damage and several ammo types, there are new chems like Slasher, and you can get up to 30% damage boost from Size Matters. They don't bypass DR, that is intended.

Perks and stuff don't give stat/special bonuses anymore (except intense training) and were changed to do more useful things since the level cap is 60 and there is more than enough skill points to max your skills even with a 50 cap.
