It would be easier still to look at their code and see how they do it, especially since one of the versions distributes your items randomly to different containers, so that you don't know where they are. Why this reluctance, though?

Reluctance. Probably because opening the 2.9.4 mods to someone (even just for personal projects) carry the huge risk of whoever gets permission will download 2.9.4 mods and upload them somewhere else, distributing the outdated stuff we want to keep contained to prevent all the problems and months of work wasted, we had to deal with in the past. :?

That is why the policy at the moment is just to give access to people we know, so they will update those mods for the latest TTW version.

This is not because we don't trust the community but just to avoid the huge problems we had in the past. And if it ever happens because we open the old mods access, it will continue forever, because the mods would be accessible in places we can't really take them down (like Mega or other file hosting sites). :(

And that is why there's this reluctance to give access to those files, when it's not that hard to learn how to do this particular stuff without access to them.

That's reasonable enough, I suppose. Let's hope the reopening isn't too far off still.

I'd wager you'll see new versions of those 2.9 mods for 3.2 before you see the 2.9 forum opened. Take a look at the recent support posts. People are still using incompatible stuff they're getting off the Nexus and completely ignoring the FAQ and incompatible mods list. All opening the 2.9 subforum would do is exacerbate the problem.
Produces the programming equivalent of coffee stains.

There is no need to sugarcoat as by not opening the 2.9.4 mods means that there is already a certain degree of distrust which imo is warranted. I myself think that the devs should keep it this way to ensure quality conversion instead of quantity. It may not be a surefire method but at least there is some prevention.

I tend to agree, a lot of the older conversions left a lot to be desired.

There is a Sydney companion mod, but the website won't let me access it?

As you can see by the title of that Google Doc. That is an outdated mod list for TTW 2.9.4, which isn't supported anymore.

So the links in that list are old, totally outdated and not available anymore.

Also that Google Doc is not "ours" and wasn't made by the TTW team. It was made by helpful TTW users. :)

But the web site is yours... Your website is locking me out of the entire thread, without giving me a reason.... And on other threads it says that I am too new to post... How do I fix that... I understand that the mod is for an older version and I use it at my own risk...

The thread is locked to everyone, not just you. And the reason is posted in the first post of this thread, and there are more details on why it's locked and access is not granted for users in one of my posts in this same page.

There are two main reasons we are not supporting or distributing mods for older TTW versions. One is in this first post of this thread (like I mentioned before): They break the new versions and we have lost months trying to fix problems users reported. When it was all because they used outdated mods from that section of the forums.
The second is what I posted here on this page (and liked just above in this same post). If we open the section to someone, we have a risk of people starting to upload the outdated and broken mods somewhere else, where we can't remove them, and then users will keep breaking their games and will flood us for help, which will make us waste time and effort for nothing and will just burn us out from working on TTW (yes, it happened in the past as explained before).

Once you have three posts approved, you won't need staff to approve them anymore, you will post them automatically. This is because we get tons of spambots posting everyday, and prevents them from making posts/threads before any staff can remove them and ban the bots.
