Fallout: Unity

Post by retlaw83 » Mon Mar 18, 2013 12:23 am

I'm a huge fan of Fallout.  While I love 1, 2, Tactics and New Vegas, Fallout 3 left a lot to be desired in the logic, open choice, canon and player agency departments.  It isn't a bad game, it's just not a good Fallout game.  I'd like to change that.  Using TTW, I think I can tie together the loose strands from Tactics and Fallout 3 in a way that makes sense with the rest of the universe.

Below are the changes I'm making for my vision to be complete. Progress I've already made is in bold.

**Locations**

- Help an Old Olney refugee and her son find out what happened to the head of their family.

- Add farms to Big Town and Rivet City.

- Remove the children from Little Lamplight, replace with Vault 87 mutant guards. Make any unique items from there just be loot.

Add a hospital run by a revival of the Children of the Cathedral to Canterbury Commons.

- Expand the interior of Vault 87.

- Enclave mutineers.

**Story/System changes**

- Tag all Lyons' BoS members as "Lyons' Chapter" to differentiate from real Brotherhood (Mojave and Outcasts)

- Add a questline for Majove chapter/Outcast interaction.

- Mojave chapter of Brotherhood has disdain for Lyons' chapter, but affinity for Outcasts.

- Add an NPC to Bigtown that explains the story of Little Lamplight getting overrun by mutants and the founding of Bigtown.

- Add some Mariposa super mutants as leaders for the Vault 87 mutants.

- Various fixes to player dialog responses that are moronic.

- Reduce amount of karma for killing evil NPCs.

- No karma loss for killing the Family

- Karma gain for killing Roy Phillips and friends.

**Item Changes**

- Make NCR versions of the riot armor from Lonesome Road to equip NCR Rangers.

- Added Regulator combat armor.

- Change riot armor helmets from heavy to light armor.  I know a lot of mods do this already but it won't hurt anything.

- Combine loot lists for Pitt raider, fiend and DC raider armor for maximum variety. Also add metal armor to the mix.

- Outfit Cook-Cook in reinforced metal armor with helmet to make him look more bad-ass.

- Custom armor for Motor-Runner.

- Rework power armor so it has bonuses and modifiers similar to Fallout 1, 2 and Tactics. Will use the following table which descends in order of baddassery:

T-45d

Fallout 3 Enclave armor (renamed Chicago Armor)

Fallout 3 Enclave tesla armor (Tesla Chicago Armor)

Hellfire Armor

T-51b

Remnants Power Armor (Advanced Power Armor)

Tesla Remnants Power Armor (Tesla Advanced Power Armor)

- Give Lyons' Pride custom T-51b

Looking forward to any feedback!

A lot of this sounds pretty cool.  I personally do not feel the need to keep the kids at little lamplight - doesn't make much sense for them to be there anyway - unless the expatriots in Big Town are shuttling babies back to the cave (???).  As for the Family - I would not bother taking them out.  Sure it is a bit silly, but they don't really get in the way otherwise.

I'd play it.

I love this idea, but here is another one, could this be what happens if you choose to start in NV in TTW? If we pick the DC start we do it normally with V101 in DC, but if we Choose NV we get V101 in DC vanilla style.

Also keep the Little Lamplight kids there, I really liked them, they gave me a good laugh.

Are you playing games with me god damnit!

Sorry, I'm yanking the kids out because they don't make a lick of sense to me.

As for moving Vault 101 to the Mojave, it's what makes the most sense to me if your character is the Lone Wanderer and the Courier.

Seems very interesting your idea. Besides, it will bring a new interest to the gameplay, since now certain things will be changed drastically. I'm agree about cleaning Little lamplight, because putting Supermutants there will now make sense. But is there a chance the kids can be relocated in another part?. If you're moving Vault 101 to Goodsprings, what about redistributing them in both DC and New Vegas settlements so they can still exist. After all they are fully voiced and developed (with their own personalities) NPC's and that's always welcome. Also, the game will feel a little empty without kids, since the remaining are very few. The only dialogue lines that would need to be cut are the ones related to the passage full of supermutants, and adapt the kid dialogues that make reference to little lamplight. For example, it will be fun to see Major MCCready in Big town or Megaton like a boy pretending is a major, and princess to his side. Even more, you can keep their dialogues and perhaps little lamplight can be kept as a local legend, so all the kids that mention it could be pretending their playing (as a lot of childs did in real life when the Power Ranges appeared; that way they won't look weird, passing as playing with imaginary friends, or something).   You could take advantage of them and create unique and funny situations.

Only a suggestion, as told before, very interesting idea. if the mod is released I will play with it for sure.

Greetings!

That McCready thing is a great idea! Really would just need to change player dialogue responses.

Sounds amazing! If you need anything fairly simple done, I'd love to help

*EDIT* So, I was slightly thrown off when I read that you aim to kill of Col. Autumn, as he is my favorite Fallout character, my Xbox tag is actually Col. Autumn II. I have a request, how about he is wounded due to the extreme radiation, like Sarah Lyons in Broken Steel, and if you side with the Enclave, he can be found in an infirmary (or his room) knocked out, like Lyons, but after a certain completion, is a recruitable follower.

@ Aconagent1: Why do you think Colonel Autumn is a compelling character?

@ Bitropio: Thank you for the suggestions, I may end up using a few.

I don't know really... I just do. I also liked the Empire better than the Rebellion... Maybe I'm just an a$$hole XD. But I'd really like to see it done. If you don't want to, that's fine. I will still get your mod and possibly better my own modding skills by doing it myself... Except I'm sure you could do a much better job. I know there is a follower Autumn mod on F03 nexus that's voiced.

*EDIT* I thought about why I liked the Empire better and I remembered. Okay, first off, I'm pretty sure that the entire Enclave faction is based off of the Empire. I am a fan of a professional army... I could tell you why, that's a different story, both are. Both are... misunderstood in my opinion. Skipping the Empire part, the Enclave never really did anything wrong... at least in FO3. Autumn and Eden were planning to take the Water Purifier (And replace the wastelanders with real scientists) and hand out water with a virus that was meant to kill mutants... I doubt they meant to kill every wastelander with it, what country has no citizens? Also, I am a huge patriot and I like the idea of Autumn being a descendant of a government official, plus he talks like one

It's been established way back that the Enclave considers anyone not part of their select little genetic pool imure due to the low-level radiation exposure of just happening to live in post-apocalyptic America. You can see this in-game from a few of their outposts where you'll find a truck trailer or other space full of dead wastelanders and a PC terminal with orders to gather test subjects then 'dispose of them' when they reach a certain number. The Enclave has (or at least had) citizens, they are a small pool of unmutated humans whom they see as the last of humanity beset on all sides by mutants and freaks. The wastelanders are not Americans to them, they're pretty much squatters or worse in their eyes.

The Enclave is not the America you love, they are the descendants (and descendants of the lackeys of) the Shadow Government who ruled the country from behind the scenes, it is implied they started (or at least failed to avert) the war with China. The US flags and patriotism are to give themselves an air of legitimacy and to give something for the rank and file to believe in, as Ulysses says in Lonesome Road a symbol is powerful.
