i never learned anything from video tutorials, it's just not how i learn to do things.  watching videos is how i learn trivia.  so when i started, i knew how i'm best suited to learning things and went about doing just that.

i guess what i'm saying is that if in-person teaching is in line with how you learn, good luck on that craigslist thing.  otherwise, you might find it possible to ask around for help in the ways that you do learn well.

Well, once I get general competency in using the toolset, I certainly will. The thing with me is the list work makes sense even if I don't know everything. What I need help with cell and object placement. The navigation toolset for the cells is shit and I need a lot of help figuring out how to make objects go where I need them to go. No roadways five feet off the ground and such. Then someoen to teach me the GIMP and Nifskope toolset. I did well with Chucksteel's PDF on mod conversion, and if I could find things like that, that might work too.

The issue on continuity and

Post by Cataca » Mon Oct 13, 2014 5:25 pm

The issue on continuity and gameplay was not discussed at all here tho. By all rights fallout 3 is *much* harder than fallout new vegas. Somewhere in the middle of the story you get to fight enemies fully clad in energy weapons (which with new vegas now ignore portion of your DT) and power armor (the highest DT armor in the game), before that you get to fight super mutants, which by all rights are at least twice as tough as your average raider out there.

Compared to new vegas, which is really easy throughout the main quest, and arguably harder on the DLC's (which i'd say are about the level of the DC main area).

From a gameplay perspective, it'd be much easier to start in vegas and move on to DC, as to not have a weird difficulty curve (steep at first, all the way down again and then back to difficult).

I like the flashback idea, but i'd imagine it'd be hard to explain how your gear can "flash back" with you. If you say that the wanderer heads out of his vault, and straight to the train, james would probably be okay for a couple of years (he is in that simulator after all), so i'd most likely go with that. However, some reason as to why he'd be motivated to leave his father in the wasteland and run for vegas, is something i have a difficult time coming up with.

Right now, i usually go to new vegas right after james dies. It does not make sense from a story perspective (unless you'd argue that the enclave and BOS fight it out for a couple of years in a standstill), but my character has a proper motivation to tell the DC wasteland to fuck off, and right about that time i am incredibly resource starved, usually on my last 5 stimpacks. I launch an attack on the train station in a last desperate effort, and just roleplay that my character got amnesia, not from the bullet from benny, but somewhen before. (after the first time in the divide, makes sense).

Wacky? Yes, most certainly it is. It makes no sense, story wise. Gameplay wise, if i'd boss through DC and then went to new vegas, i'd be bored out of my skull there. I'd probably have fun in the DLC areas again, but i'd like everything to be fun if possible.

devil Super Mutants were a joke in FO3. That's why we have an optional plugin to pansy them up for people who prefer FO3 style Super Mutants.

i have played morroblivion, and either one you start has a dead guy with the most important object to the main quet, maybe if you satrt in nv you can go to d.c. and find a note talking about your father and you have to find him to meet him for the first tme, just a suggestion though, not sure how that would work out

The difficulty curve is self inflicted mostly, i know. But even with the supermutant rebalance the enclave and muties are rather hard, compared to say some raiders or fiends you find in new vegas. Together with PN and several other mods that make the game harder, or more resource intensive, i have a very compelling reason to switch wastelands at a certain point. I just like to save some of the fo3 content for later to still have some challenging content to look forward to, instead of snoozemode vegas and the (awesome) dlc there.

Thermador's start menu optional plugin does give you certain stuff in case you start in NV that helps link with the FO3 story yes

Retrograde amnesia - but then this would leave out the beginning of Fallout 3 and growing up in the vault :)
I was asking out of curiosity to see what silliness people could come up with. Because most likely, there's no good way to go from New Vegas to being launched onto an operating table.
I'm thinking of writing a crossover fan fiction with my own character (whole story, but from the character's mind). I'm investigating just how to put this together, and this retrograde amnesia thing sounded good. I remembered the "initiation" in the "Point Lookout" DLC and thought that would make a perfect flashback to help the character recover what was lost --- but then I remembered that's in FO3. Is it really a whole nine year gap has to be filled in? When I played the first time, I swear it said "Three..."! Been doing some math and may have to change some dates to really make the timelines fit.

Here's an idea.

*Make a simple quest in DC that involves the "DC express". A small airport in its own worldspace connected by the metro. They are looking for mercenaries to clear an airstrip of raiders who keep interrupting flights.
*Once completed, the lone wanderer is given the option to take a package to the mojave express with a reward if completed.
*At the mojave express airport terminal in vegas, the player is not allowed to leave because the NCR have strict passport requirements. You are only allowed to interact with mojave express staff at a small office within the terminal.
*For plot reasons, the mojave express management need you to earn their trust. You do a few errands back and forth between DC and the mojave. Just delivering packages between the offices, nothing fancy.
*This requirement ofc is dropped if you've completed the DC main quest and your reputation preceeds you.
*Once trust is earned the mojave express has a very important assignment for you, to take a package to the goodsprings graveyard to meet a securitron called victor.
*Once you leave the door and are finally able to travel the mojave, you are transported to the graveyard where you find yourself waiting for victor at night.
*Someone knocks you out from behind, roll the NV intro scene.
