Regarding Energy Visuals Plus and TTW Compatibility

Post by SPITSPHIRE » Sat May 20, 2023 6:52 pm

Having playtested EVP thoroughly, using the mod for over 60 hours on both a moderately modded and "vanilla" save, this mod is not entirely stable and I wholeheartedly would not recommend using it with ttw as of EVP version 2.0-2.2.

The mod causes constant crashing and CTD and does not play nice with other populer TTW mods such as bleed, AWOP4FO3, or other mods which add new, or edit existing enemies to the game.

In addition, if you have a lower end pc the mod will (pretty obviously) place extra strain on both your pc and the game engine, causing stutters and frame drops upon entering combat where energy weapons or explosives are being used.

Lastly the mod author has a rather hostile attitude towards those reporting crashing or performance issues with the mod, having banned/blocked more then a half dozen individuals as of the time of posting.

Its possible the mod will one day be improved and these issues corrected, but for the time being I would recommend avoiding installing the mod.

If you absolutely must use the mod, version 1.7, which can be found on the older, depreciated mod page, is relatively stable compared to other versions.
However be aware this version is rather old and is missing many of the features found in the newer versions.

Regarding testing methodologies:

In my modded test save I was using these mods:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1C4wIC8 ... share_link
and was tested by starting a new game with none of the older versions of the mod installed, and by using the most recent versions of the mods requirements.
I tested this save for more then 35 hours, completing much of New Vegas, including the majority of the main quest up to the battle of hover damn.
(I did not start the battle proper in this save)

Overall I received crashing at semi-consistent intervals of around 30-45 minutes in this save, and would experience crashing upon entering combat where either i or the enemy was using energy/explosive weapons on a 40/60 basis.
(40% of the time I would experience no crashing, 60% I would ctd upon starting combat.)

As for the "vanilla" test, it was conducted by using only TTW, its requirements and EVP (with its requirements) from a clean/new save beginning in vault 101.
This save was tested for 23 hours, playing through much of Fallout 3.

In this save the random ctd was slightly lessened (down from every 30-45 minutes, to every hour or so) but the ctd upon entering combat remained the same 40/60 ratio.
It was however a much more common occurrence due to the number of enemies in fo3 which use energy weapons.
I would also crash pretty often due to enemies off in the distance entering combat with each other, without my involvement.
