Are there plans to add a MCM

Post by burstdragon323 » Thu Jun 08, 2017 4:20 am

Are there plans to add a MCM switch that would natively kill all faction tags?

I know there is a mod for it, but I was curious.

It's due when it's ready.

I've been waiting on 3.0 to reinstall TTW after wiping out Windows, but given how long it's taking, I'll work on setting up Skyrim again first. Hopefully by the time I'm done with that, 3.0 will be out.

Ahem...

Seems you'll need more motivation to take on the helm of those PA tweakings, and here I was hoping just the glory would be enough

Jokes aside, still have hopes for you, please don't crush my little childly heart (yes I've the perk!) =]

I still plan on working on that, but I keep hoping 3.0 comes out so I don't have to do it twice - once for 2.9.4, and then again for 3.0. If 3.0 is going to be a while longer coming, I'll probably work on it anyway. It SOUNDS like we're REALLY CLOSE... but that doesn't mean we still don't have a bit of a wait left.

Don't forget that I can help with anything that you might need, dunno how extensive are the changes you plan, but hopefully once you get going it will all work out in the end =]

I've got your back, bro! Don't you worry

Very much looking forward to 3.0 - everything you've said about it is a positive in my book, thanks to the team for continuing to evolve this project. I'm gonna wait to install my new Gog game versions just for TTW 3.0, I have not been this excited since GTAV was due to come out for PC 2 years after console versions :P

Speaking of GoG- I love the idea of DRM free programs!!! Now, the executable can be directly patched without "breaking" the game (Steam dunnae like it changing, it won't run- blast the runtime injected code!), allowing fixes to be more than just game data!

That doesn't change anything, I've already patched the steam version with inlining, and we've been fixing bugs in the game code for some months now via regular NVSE plugins. It effectively is the same to inject the patches or patch the binary, the injection method is better because it doesn't change the verisign or file hashes.

Steam still does a DRM check for games like NV that are now DRM free? One thing I noticed is that, anytime the .NET framework has an update it breaks the steam games (like Fallout NV, Skyrim etc.,.) from starting. I've seen this many times over, from 'Failed to Initialize Renderer" (try looking that one up on Google, Lol!) to the game simply exits as soon as it starts (think Skyrim SE here). We're not talking pirated games here, since my account can log onto steam just fine without the update. We're talking about using DRM as a blanket excuse for 'forcing' OS upgrades onto pcs, whether wanted or not (again not debating the logistics of why someone should or shouldn't update- some are needed, some aren't (Windows 10 upgrade telemetry for one, forcing silent updates, resetting user privacy settings, the unwanted list can go on and on). The game simply doesn't work until all MS updates are applied. Now, granted I haven't played Fallout NV in awhile, nor is this a debate on whether one should update said OS, but ... NVSE mightv'e completely 'patched' the DRM check out of the steam version? If so, that's awesome! Either way, I still love the idea of DRM free games and think it's a great! :)

My patcher bypasses the file

Post by RoyBatty » Mon Jun 19, 2017 3:30 pm

My patcher bypasses the file integrity check, steam is still required to run the game if you use the steam version. The GoG version has no exe wrapper like steam (think UPX with some file integrity checks and anti debug added). It is already 4GB aware so no patching needed, just launch with NVSE.

Steam doesn't care about in memory alterations on non multiplayer games.

Never had an issue with updating Windows 7 or 8.1, Windows 10 just breaks stuff on a regular basis especially in terms of backwards compatibility.
