What are the .override extension files used for?

Post by Mama Stankum » Sat Nov 17, 2018 8:05 am

Was wondering what the files in the Data directory ending with the .override file extension are used for. There seems to be one for the "Main" BSA archive for every New Vegas DLC except for Dead Money. It obviously has something to do with the repacking done by Roy's BSA Decompressor.

https://geckwiki.com/index.php/BSA_Files
BSA files can be made to override previous BSA files like newer Bethesda titles by creating an empty text file with the same name as the BSA file and adding the extension .override
This behavior requires the jip_ln NVSE plugin to enable

NameOfYourMod - Textures.override
NameOfYourMod - Meshes.override
NameOfYourMod - Misc.override
It's new functionality added by JIPLN NVSE plugin to allow BSA's to override each other sort of like they were plugins, instead of requiring files to be "loose" or outside BSA's, to override files in another BSA.

Thanks pinto, didn't realise JIP added that functionality! That's pretty awesome!

Also zilav coded the installer/decompressor.
