Looking for Weather Mod that works with both FO3/NV Worldspaces

Post by The 3rd Type » Thu Jan 03, 2013 3:41 am

I'm kinda in a pickle.

I'm using NVSkies URWLified, but it has no effect on the Capital Wasteland Portion of TTW.

Is there a whether mod that effects both The Capital Wasteland and The Mojave Wasteland?

Good question, I had just re-installed NS Vanilla, and wasn't sure if it was working in DC because there's no way to change weather or settings in this version that I can see. Jacobstown instantly snowed.

Note: Anyone using NS or PR should intsall Vert's WFO trees, otherwise the Jacobstown trees turn luminous at night.

Gonna switch to PR now then. There isn't much rain in PR though (in Vegas), regardless of settings. I need rain, I love it.

Nevada Skies is great for the Mojave, but, as mentioned, doesn't seem to work properly with the DC wasteland, and as I found out, has a really annoying "blackout" effect if you wait outside during certain times of the day. Saving/loading doesn't fix it, etc. Real shame, because Nevada Skies is my favorite, since you can adjust the rate of certain weather events, and set "special" weather types, like Silent Hill's fog, an armageddon-style sky, etc.

Project Reality seems to work well in both wastelands, but has that really awful "radioactive rain" option that, while it can be disabled, seems to still be capable of causing the raid sirens to play anyway, at least according to comments in the mod's page on Nexus. (The reason it's awful is pretty simple: NPCs aren't affected by the rad-rain, while the player is basically doomed if they aren't near shelter when the sirens start going off. In Nevada Skies, NPCs are affected by stuff like dust storms, and will run for cover if outside.) That, and for myself and quite a few others in the comments section, PR causes some really annoying slowdown after a while, as if it's leaking memory or something. Nevada Skies does no such thing.

If there was a way to get Nevada Skies working properly in the Capital Wasteland, I'd jump at it, but for the time being, seems I'll have to go without a weather mod, unless I want to avoid ever waiting outside.

Aha! I knew I had seen this comment somewhere.

This has just happened to me. My normal FPS count is about 25 (it's pretty smooth) and today I was down to about 8.

It wasn't like this yesterday, or the day before. (With PR installed) But today it plummeted and PR was responsible.

EDIT: I checked and unchecked boxes in the mod menu, and it's ok for now. Still, theres room for improvement as far as TTW weather is concerned.

Yeah, I think it was the DOF effect, but I found a way to make Nevada Skies work. Haven't had any problems so far. Making a thread about it, so others can check it out.

Ok, I haven't tried your fix yet, but for what it's worth, yeah, I fixed PR by unchecking the 'subtle DOF' box, despite the fact it was already unchecked and it solved the problem.

So, from having two unusable weather mods, we now have 2 to choose from, if PR decides to enable the broken feature again without any input, then it needs to be fixed because I certainly don't like the idea of going into the MCM every so often to fix that.

Post by dkunit » Sat Jan 26, 2013 7:19 pm

I actually got Nevada Skies to work without actually meaning to. I got to the Union Station in DC. I made a save when i got to the ticket terminal. I bought a ticket and traveled to NV just to see what the opening was like. After i got through the opening and reloaded the save i mentioned, i went outside and the weather, cloud, and sky were all working in DC. If anyone could recreate this that would be some sort of progress, i guess.

Seems to have worked for me, as well. One thing I did notice in the fix I outlined in my thread is that because the default FO3 brightness settings aren't adjusted the way NSkies settings are, at least in the URWLified version, you can get some rather jarring changes in lighting if you use the Wait command a lot outside.(When night falls, you can have varying degrees of brightness, culminating in a /really/ dark 1:00 AM-4:00 AM time period. Not sure exactly what's causing it, but it freaked me out the first time it happened.) Doesn't seem to happen in the Mojave, but it's there in DC. Might want to play with the brightness values if you're using URWLified, to find settings that mesh a bit better with the ones it uses.
