Post by Zenny » Fri Apr 18, 2014 11:56 pm

Who remebers the days when you explored Southen California? What about Klamath? Vault City? Boneyard? Dont you agree that thats better than the Mojave?

What is your favorite F1/F2 location?

I like Klamath, because I lived there for a short while.

I compared game maps and real

I compared game maps and real world maps, and I'm fairly sure I live within 10-15 miles of the future location of the BoS Lost Hills bunker.

Modoc in Fallout 2.

Modoc in Fallout 2.

The first time I was playing, I was in a bad way having come out of too many close scrapes with raiders or geckos as I was traveling East out of Klamath. The description of the town and the impression that the calming music had on me was such a welcome respite from the wastes. It made me think of one word: sanctuary.

As I've returned to this area many times since I've felt a growing sense of belongingness here. I always make sure to stop by Rose's Bed and Breakfast and treat myself to one of Rose's special omelettes when I'm passing through.

I'm pretty sure Lost Hills

I'm pretty sure Lost Hills Bunker is actually in a place called Lost Hills, if I recall correctly it's located off of I-5, or maybe 99...I can't remember.

Anyways, favorite place is New Reno, they call me Harry Cannon.

I'm always partial to the Hub

Post by charwo » Mon May 05, 2014 7:31 am

I'm always partial to the Hub. I might have picked someplace else, had they had green mods back then (and there was a drought in in both Fallout games), I might say Modoc or Junktown or Vault City, but the Hub is the big 'fuck you' to the post-apocalyptic vibe. It's rebuilt, has civil government, law enforcement, industry, trade.

And yes, the post-apocaplyptic theme is supposed to be despised. In several genres: post-apocalypse, city noir, the Western, dystopia, the setting is the ultimate villain. It's a Man (protagonist) vs. nature set up. True victory isn't the defeat of the villain of the week, it's a genre shift. When Elder Lyons talk about the 'Wasteland' going pat tense, that's the victory.
