Starting a New Play-Through, Tell What I'm Doing Wrong, Please

Post by katnerd » Tue Oct 29, 2019 8:17 am

Figured I'd preemptively post here just in case anybody is bored and wants to pick through this kind of thing. Might save me some annoyance later.
System: Windows 10 pro
CPU: Ryzen 5 2600 (OC'd 4ghz)
GPU: RX 580 8gb
Ram: 16gb
Mod Manager: MO2
Have ENBoost installed with no graphical enhancement. Just the memory stuff.
I honestly don't remember if FNV runs better in windowed fullscreen or just fullscreen. Seem to recall that some BGS games do.

I'm just curious as to whether I've done anything wrong like mods loaded before or after the wrong ones or install order errors. If this were Skyrim I'd know myself but I haven't messed around with FNV for quite some time and the older BGS games are different beasts.
I simply followed MIchael's optimization and install guides, cross referencing them with the FAQ while also stalking Roy's posts here for a bit.
You don't have to be diplomatic, I'm old and have long since moved to the stage that I prefer bluntness over politeness.

Since you have done your homework/research I can't really spot any major problem at the moment. Just that the pip-boy replacer personally does not sit well with me but FAQ said otherwise (mounted version? o_O). Also make sure you are using version 1.8 of CASM. There were issues with version 1.9 because that version needed an unreleased version of JIP LN NVSE to function.

Hmm what else? What about NVSR/NVTF and NVAC for added stability to the game?
NVSR
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/66063

NVTF <- Consensual recommendation for windows 10
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/66537

NVAC
https://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/53635

Lastly, make sure JIP LN and the 4GB patcher are working by entering the console command in game menu:
getislaa -> should return value 2.0
getjiplnversion -> should return the version you have installed.

NVSE, NVTF/NVSR, JIP LN NVSE & NVAC will create their own .txt files where your FalloutNV.exe is if they are functioning properly. These files will be constantly updated with each launch of the game so you can check the date to see they are functioning correctly or not.

Oh yeah,
zzjayHairsFNV.esp adds/modifies the vanilla races to add in the hairs, not sure what impact it will have. Might not be anything but just a headsup. I only use the meshes & textures for beloved girls race but not the plugin. The worse can happen is that you will have mismatched head and body color and will have to play around with "bLoadFaceGenHeadEGTFiles=0" settings.

Not sure why it's not in the FAQ, but Pip Boy replacers that are more than just mesh/texture replacers have always been an issue for every version of TTW. Don't use them. And as mentioned, make sure your version of CASM is the previous one, not the latest.

UsagiPyon: "the pip-boy replacer personally does not sit well with me but FAQ said otherwise (mounted version? o_O)."
I'd known about Pop-Boy replacers being a problem. I'm guessing this has to do with the popularity of the Readus (sp?). The Readus looks too slick for the setting, imho, however. Also, I do believe, it edits the race records or some-such, which causes the problem. I chose this particular Pip-Boy replacer because it maintains the aesthetic of the Fallout games and the only record the esp edits from either base game is the flashlight, which I overwrite with FlashlightNVSE anyway. I'm just not a fan of the bulky Pip-Boy on the arm. Personal taste.
UsagiPyon: "Also make sure you are using version 1.8 of CASM"
Thanks for this, I was unaware of this problem.
Also, I can't believe I forgot about NVSR and NVAC, lol! I'll check out NVTF as well since that looks like it may have better compatibility with Win10.
As far as the hairs are concerned, I'd already gone in to xEdit and checked that. Oddly enough the FNVMerged patch took care of the conflicts between the HairPatcher, zzjayHairsFNV, and the teeth mod. I'd thought I would have to manually create a patch to do that. Was nice surprise.
The Body mods I'm using were chosen specifically because they minimize the neckseam to the point that I can't see it. I went with Breeze entirely due to the fact that it does not add an esp that edits races like Roberts does. I really, really, hate neckseams. The Type 4 female body was chosen due to it being the only female body replacer that specifically added TTW support. I did have to hunt up another mod to replace some outfits, though, as they were a bit too...well, I'm sure you get the picture, lol! I'm planning on streaming my game and it needs to be SFW. Also they looked a bit ridiculous, heh.

Yeah, UsagiPyon before you had already mentioned this. The Pip-Boy replacer I use doesn't edit the race records, the only conflict from the esp is with the pip-boy flashlight, which I overwrite with FlashlightNVSE anyway.
Just found out I was using 1.8 of CASM anyway. Apparently I took the author at his word when he said it was still beta, heh.

Thanks to both of ya.This is exactly what I was hoping for by taking a pro-active approach to problem solving on my load order rather than waiting for the problems to arise while playing and having to fix and start over again.

THANKS!!

Pipboy replacers should be "arm mounted" style and not "handheld" ones. Handhelded ones will cause major problems in certain places, like Tranquility Lane, Doc Mitchell's house or the Vault 101 Birthday party (not sure about this one) for example.
This is because on how handheld models are implemented. Which causes the game to not be able to return/give the proper pipboy to the player (because the handheld mod disables the arm-mounted one) while not being able to give the modded pipboy either (because the game has no idea about the modded ones). :?

I didn't add this to the FAQ because I was sure it was already included in the not compatible mods thread (linked on the FAQ). And I just quickly checked and it does say there to only use the Handheld version of the Familiar Friend (Pip-Boy 2500) and to not use the Readius. :D

Good to know that the reason goes deeper than simple mesh and slot conflicts. Thanks Risewild.

IMPORTANT: Do not install A Familiar Friend UNTIL AFTER VAULT 101. Because the game gives you your first pip-boy at age 10 during the tutorial/character generation sequence, you need to wait until after that is over to install AFF.

IMPORTANT: If you use A Familiar Friend, YOU MUST UNINSTALL IT before you start Tranquility Lane or Operation Anchorage, and then re-install it after you exit the simulation chamber. Otherwise your Pip-Boy will not work properly when you exit those parts of the game.
Found this quote by, well, you from a few years ago. Am I correct in assuming that this is the same situation now as it was then? If so, well, I use Roy's Quick Start mod which seems to bypass the issue with getting the pip-boy as a child and the rest is easy enough to deal with.
In the short term I've been thinking of just using:
Pip-Boy 2500A - The Arm Mounted Pipboy 2500
and
Removeable Pip-Boy Glove
From what I can see these two shouldn't cause any conflicts (I did have to forward a mesh record for Yukichigai's Removable glove mod but that's pretty basic and simple)
The Removable glove mod is so I don't have the annoying "Michael Jackson" one glove thing :)

Any problems with option two?

It should still be like that.

Option 2 seems to be the best option. I don't know much about the removable glove mod, but it should be fine (hopefully) :P .

Okay, hopefully a few people will still be browsing by this post of me asking annoying questions :p
I've been considering adding Adam Reborn but I did notice it edits some Armor records, specifically the "Repair Lists" and "BMDT - Biped Data" fields within the Armor records. I was thinking I could simply create a patch carrying over the "BMDT" and "REPL" fields within the record but my rule of thumb so far has been to be wary of anything that removes data from a record that is in the "TaleOfTwoWastelands.esm" as these are things I'm sure were put there for a good reason and reverting them might revert something that is a relevant fix.

(I'm also way paranoid about leveled lists...but at least I know how to create and edit them, I'm just too lazy to do it, hehe).
