Feedback wanted for TOW
I'm in the process of making a Tale of One Wasteland mod for TTW
I'm looking for feedback from people who use TTW to play only Fallout 3 and do not want the ability to start in or go to New Vegas.
What features would you like to see reverted, or removed for such an experience?
Be advised I have no desire to remove all the extra items/gear added in TTW, that's beyond the scope of what I want to do and would be incredibly time consuming and difficult. If you really want a pure FO3 experience, play Fallout 3.
Hardcore mode selection will remain for people who want that.
I will not restore Big Guns, again if you want this just play FO3 until such time as 3.4 is released (in 3-4 years).
The reason I am doing this myself is to avoid the problems of people doing this for a single release of TTW and never maintaining the mod, or doing it in a way which is broken. I figure if people really want this I'll do it myself so that it can be properly done and maintained.
So far I have these changes.
Level Cap restored to 30
Perks reverted to Fallout 3 boosts
Bobbleheads reverted to Fallout 3 boosts
Carry Weight nerf to companion suite removed
TTW worldspaces blocked off
No option to start in NV
Nerf to base skill point multiplier removed
Please, post your suggestions and wants.
Thank you,
Roy.

Re: Feedback wanted for TOW
Skill point perks and bobblehead would be horrifyingly boring. Just by finding all the books would bring skill threshold up 20 points and max skill in 20 levels or less.
So i suggest perks and bobbleheads are just the same as ttw. No need for reversion
----
How bad is f3 you ask? I basically restart after 20 level in because of max skill. If i want to play at lvl30? I would need to setlevel 10 at v101 exterior. In ttw, if i want playing to 40? Setlevel 20. And so forth. Almost never get up to 50 unless i castrate my intelligence from start and i hate doing that shit.

I'd say that I agree with most changes except for the Level Cap change. Sure that would be closer to FO3 but that would also mean rebalancing perk level caps. It would also mean that people who use mods such as ROOG would be experiencing pitifully slow leveling, even slower if they choose to not do one or two of the DLCs.

Re: Feedback wanted for TOW
I've been reading around trying to pick up what info I can and one of the things I saw was a few bits about was issues with the FO3 DLC. I'd be interested in knowing what to look out for in this regard. As you say in the OP, my main reason for checking out TWW was for an improved FO3 experience. What I have seen so far is very nice though. Restored dialogue, much improved character textures and such. It would be cool to have an option to make the title screen a little more FO3 centric. I have always found the opening them from FO3 to be very moving. So, I guess things that might help bring FO3 to the forefront for those that may want that would welcome additions. I'm really excited to give this my first playthrough, and these are just my first impressions, bear in mind. I'm loving what I see so far, and having done a fair bit of personal modding, I know the time and effort it takes to put something like TTW together. What I have enjoyed most about my experience here is that I learned something new. The tutorial taught me quite a lot about using a proper mod manager, so I guess you can teach an old dog new tricks. I have to be grateful for that. So, thanks for sharing this excellent mod/conversion.
Peace!
Peace!

Those changes sound fine. The other one I would suggest, although I have no idea how feasible it is, is the removal of DT. The base criticals of gear might need to be edited too, I cant remember if thats changed in TTW - does TTW bring FO3 in line with NV or is it the other way round?
Aside from that, the only other stuff I can think of is art and sound. That would be the default fallout 3 HUD interface and compass atlas, and the FO3 sounds for things.

Re: Feedback wanted for TOW
I actually use the FO3 HUD sprite sheet and loading wheel as well as the sounds myself. Also the player sounds (I can't stand Yuri).
TTW has DR and DT like classic Fallouts, I don't think I would change that, as it would require rebalancing the entire game again which I am not inclined to do.
We can't restore the loading screen slides, or the loading screen stats at this time. As nice as that would be, and I've wanted it for a long time myself.

So, as I have spent more time with TTW I have to say I love it. There's a few little preference things that are more a matter of personal taste. Like the loading screens, I learned after making my post are really easy to customize yourself and the theme is as simple as a swap of the wav file. Best I can tell the story quests play great with no issue.
I agree with a suggestion I have seen that maybe the FO3 unique weapons could be moddable. Maybe instead of any old mod though, there were unique mods for them. I don't know just a thought. I think something along those lines could help make hunting for them feel a little more satisfying. Bit of work to do, but not that bad, the unique mod thing might be bit much. I'm still learning how the weapon system works in terms of changes made to the spread and stuff. I ended making a few of my own weapons with guns using FO3 stats just for my own comfort. (Just my own starter gear mod.) But I have been checking out the vanilla weapons and mods and it is pretty cool. Seems well balanced. I really like the anti-material rifle. Explosive rounds : D
I'm not sure what kinds of plans you are making or if you're just looking for ideas and spit balling. I'd say making the FO3 uniques a little more exiting might be a fun mod to make. Really though I think you guys did a solid job of a faithful conversion of FO3. If you're looking for the story, it's all there. I guess there was sort of a strategy to the way I played FO3 that through me off at first, but once I got used to it, it didn't bother me. Any changes I wanted to make I could implement myself.

Re: Feedback wanted for TOW
I am sort of in the middle, so don't know how useful this opinion would be, but I like to play New Vegas AND I like to play Fallout 3.
However, unlike traditional TTW, I am not interested in having any interaction at all between the games and in fact I believe it's detrimental to balance and to each game in general to be able to travel between them.
My ideal way to play Fallout 3 would be basically "Fallout 3 in the New Vegas engine" so that I can use FNV mods and engine plugins (of which there are a LOT more than Fallout 3)
My overall desire/design would be
- Add "Play Fallout 3" and "Play New Vegas" options to the main menu, starting each game respectively
- Keep both games as separate as possible in terms of items, but there are probably some edge cases where adding some FO3 things to NV or NV things to FO3 makes sense
- I want to use the same modlist for both, and basically have a universal experience while keeping the games separate.
- I could see a benefit to treating FO3 As if Bethesda made it using the FNV version of the engine with it's features, such as DT, proper crafting, traits, proper speech checks, weapon mods, etc. Just because it wasn't in the game originally doesn't mean it shouldn't be added, if it is an improvement or makes it closer to NV in terms of gameplay. However, I also understand that the point of this is to not blend things together too much. At the end of the day, there would always be mods for that.
Basically, I am not looking for "pure" fallout 3, and I still want to play New Vegas. Instead, I am looking for consistency between Fallout 3 and New Vegas, and the ability to play them with the same modlist, so it's effectively like 2 games managed as one, but separate.
The way I see it, there's no real benefit to disabling FNV if we're already playing in the FNV engine. Even if New Vegas was considered "unsupported", there's sort of no reason to prevent playing it entirely.

Re: Feedback wanted for TOW
You can already choose what wasteland you start in.
This idea is purely for people who want the things TTW does, but without NV, which I can understand to a degree, especially for LPs. Some people have issues with the "lore" of it.
3.4 will solve the balance issues, by leveling the NV wasteland (since it's odd man out among F3 main games and both games DLC) and restoring big guns as well.
Anyways, thats all discussed elsewhere. I'm only interested in feedback about this particular mod.
