Out of curiosity, why not just make patch files for the .bsa archives? Are they too large (i.e, GBs in size)?

Yes we need you! I have no idea what was wrong with the old installer (im guessing some kind of copyright system from what i could gather+bad for future updates) so yes we need you so 3.0 can be released asap! the community as a whole would be greatful for your service!
