So I ran the new installer

So I ran the new installer and it all worked fine (I think) and it created the fomods. I dragged them into the NMM mods folder, opened NMM (latest, 0.46.0) and went to install Tale of Two Wastelands - Main. I waited around for ~15 minutes, OS hangs up for a second, I get this (twice; I tried installing it again to double check, same message):

My immediate guess is I ran out of memory, but I say this based on having no idea what that message box is telling me. Unless this is something more serious than I think it is, I'm assuming I should just do a manual install?

Are you on a 32 bit system?

"Currently NMM doesn't support the installation of archived big files on a 32bit OS . Eg. Installing a 1Gb archive with 1000 small files in it works; installing a 1Gb archive with a 700Mb and a 300Mb files in it, doesn't." http://forums.nexusmods.com/index.php?/topic/721054-problems-read-here-f...

I had this error on a 32-bit WinXP test system with NMM.  I never got TTW to install with NMM because of this error.

If you have access to a 64-bit version of windows (XP x64 or Vista x64 or Win 7 x64, etc.) I would try that if you have  the heart for doing it.

You could also try disabling your antivirus - NMM has a lot of issues with antivirus programs.

I'm having the same issue now myself. This install is making pullout my hair. I'm gonna try and disable my antivirus and see if that works.

My OS is a 64 bit win 7

I have 8 gigs  of ram and a 3.2 gig quad core and plenty (plenty being a relative term, but i have enough for this) of hard drive space. If that doesn't work I'll attempt a manual install. or maybe try mod organizer if i can find it.

This error pops up if the install takes too long. If you walk away and come back an hour later, NMM seems to forget what it was doing and throw an error. So unfortunately the FOMOD cannot be installed unattended.

This error also applies to people with low amounts of RAM which causes attended installs to take too long and NMM fogets what it was doing.

I was here the entire time watching as it goes ever so slowly. If its taking to long I'm not sure what i can do.

EDIT: Ok after watching it creep along again, i noticed that it doesn't actually take that long for it to install. but after the install bar disappears it just sits there  doing nothing for a while until that message pops up. This time it waited 5 minutes.

K I'm late mentioning this, but I am on Win 7 x64, although this machine is also my backup toaster with only 4GB ram since my main PC conked out out on me. C'est la vie. Anyway, I went ahead with a manual install and it worked fine. Judging by you guys' glowing appraisals of NMM, I think I may go back to FOMM.

Perren D'Wolf, the fast method for installing TTW with Mod Organizer is to create a folder in (Mod organizer install dir)/mods called TTW and just copy the contents of (TTW installer dir)/install/main files to the newly created TTW folder and make the INI changes through the MO ini editor.

If you're using FOMM to install the ttw .fomod, you must replace the fomm.exe with a large-address-aware version, otherwise you will get exactly the behaviour you are describing.  There is a link on the alpha download page.

Did you follow the upgrade instructions on the download page?  This error sounds like you are trying to install 2.4 on top of an older version of TTW.
