Is there a way to play the mod without Steam having to run in the background?
If you want a 100% steam-free experience, you need the GOG versions of the games. If you have steam, and want to minimize it's impact, you can disable the overlay in the game's properties. You can also go so far as to play in offline mode if you really think it'll help.
Yep GoG versions are DRM free.
Hmmm, purchase a new game pad or GoG releases. Decisions, decisions.
What's the problem with your gamepad? I occasionally play fallout with a gamepad myself, and have never had an issue with using them and steam simultaneously. Are you trying to use a xboxone controller, because I've discovered from personal experience that it does not play friendly with a whole host of games. As to why, i dunno exactly as I was under the impression it used XInput like the 360 controller, but I'm beginning to have my suspicions that that isn't quite the case.
Well i'v been using a Logitec G13 keypad (Cheap and easy setup) and a thumball mouse forever as it helped to move to pc from console. The new keypad would be for the lappy at work so I dont have to bring it back and forth is all.
I use an older Razer game mouse and a Nostromo n52 speedpad. They're great together for Bethesda games - I've made profiles for all the games so they use the same layout, making it easier to switch between the games.
Ha, that's funny as I do the same. Trying to keep the same layout is great for switching between all the games.
Yep. Same movement keys, same hotkeys, same activate key, same walk/run key, same sprint key (using mods for sprinting in older games), same holster/reload key, etc. I use the same key for cast magic in Oblivion, VATS for Fallout 3/NV, and shout for Skyrim. They're all special attacks, so it was fairly obvious to map the same... in my own opinion, of course. So I have three map profiles for the n52 - Oblivion, Fallout, and Skyrim. The launch game is bound to the script extender loader each different game.
After the move to pc I have totally forgotten about VATS, except when I would like a perk that is bound to VATS, that bums me out occasionally.
I think I remember some mods that change the VATS only perks into non VATS version, or that add also bonuses for when they are used outside VATS.
I don't use mods. so I don't really know the name of those mods or if they even work properly.
Project Nevada does that.
After a couple years and countless hours modding 7 days 2 die (.XML edits) I am soo having to relearn modding the FO series again. Was watching some utube vids on a couple mods that are aimed at injecting FO3 and FONV into FO4. Pretty ambitious undertaking. Looks like they liked what TTW did and trying to keep the idea alive into the next gen of FO.
