@ freakydoo - It did make me

@ freakydoo - It did make me chuckle

@ chucksteel - because I suck at making actual covers from scratch but now I am thinking maybe I could make a unique spy vs spy book that would give a bonus or something while in the inventory .

First of all, I like this mod

First of all, I like this mod a lot. It makes something not interesting, interesting.

I found an incompatibility though, with a mod I use called 'Magazines Reworked' which replaces the magazines temporary skill boost with a less generous but permanent one. Even when I place that mod under yours, the temporary effect remains. An example of this is 'Life' magazine. Are they all-new objects or something?

If there's a way round this, I would be delighted. But I really need to retain the other mod as it's one of my favourite gameplay hacks. Thanks!

Yep, all the new magazines

Yep, all the new magazines are new objects, otherwise I could only have one version of each magazine and not ten.

Since I am a really basic modder and know almost nothing about moding, I don't know how to fix that but I will have a look at that mod you said and check it out, who knows if I can wipe a patch or something, for now your best option is to not use my mod sorry.

I downloaded that mod and took a look at it well I think I got a version that probably works with it now (been working on it all this time ), didn't tested it though, didn't even tried ingame that magazine mod (I am lazy, sorry), but I think it might work.

Just get the zip file again and inside it you will find a file called "risesbooks MagRwrkd.esp", just get rid of the "risesbooks.esp" you probably have on your data folder and drop the "risesbooks MagRwrkd.esp" in there, then just load that one after the Magazines Reworked one, hope it works and all my effort wasn't wasted .

:)

:)

Well that one does indeed seem to work, I tried the 2 mags in the megaton house and yup, no temp effect. I can't vouch whether they 'stack' like in MR as of yet, that would take a few hours of testing to find out.

Just visited Arlington Library to see how it looks and it adds a lovely little dash of colour here and there in an otherwise repetitive enclosure. Very nice indeed.

Oh I did notice that the mags are technically listed as food. I'm guessing theres a technical reason for that, and I only noticed because I have Project Nevadas 'Inventory Sorting' on.

Still, I'm gonna drop the inventory sorter in favour of the new books then. Thanks for the extra effort rise. :)

The magazines are all

The magazines are all consumables (food) even the normal vanilla magazines in the vanilla Fallout New Vegas game.

Thanks for using my mod, please tell me if you find anything wrong or not working properly .

Rise, here's a list of

Rise, here's a list of current Pre War Books that Scribe Yearling will not accept, due to your mod kinda... replacing them:

Toolbox (1C001819) has 8 items:

12 - Pre-War Book (5A007514)

13 - Pre-War Book (5A00B44E)

15 - Pre-War Book (5A007512)

16 - Pre-War Book (5A00A47C)

16 - Pre-War Book (5A00B44C)

17 - Pre-War Book (5A00A47B)

17 - Pre-War Book (5A00A47D)

21 - Pre-War Book (5A00B44B)

5A is the mod index, so the rest are all the base objects.

Its a great mod, the only Issue I have run into is the Prewar books not working to train up companions.

I suspect it means your new list items need to be added in some other spot in a merge of some kind so they are recognized as usable to learned.

I am sorry but I have no idea of what you mean .

You can't use Pre-war books to train companions in either Fallout games or TTW so I am really confused .

Thanks to CDTalmas  Scribe Yearling now accepts all pre-war books .

EDIT: Version 0.5 released, get it from the first post.

  • Added 24 new Pre-war books
  • Added magazines compatibility for PN sorter system (should sort into the MAG section now)
  • Small fixes and edits that were needed  to get rid of leftovers from my earlier experimental phase .

I believe he's referring to mods like Brisa Amaldovar and Wendy Gilbert, that can use Pre-War Books to train up skills.

Never used any of those mods, so I had no idea about that feature

To be honest I don't think that making a follower read "A Christmas Carol" for example would improve their skills.

Maybe I later I will check those mods out and see if I can wipe a patch if it is simple enough to do, but no promises.

I noticed something when I

I noticed something when I was exiting the outcast hideout are of DC. There was piles of books at various intervals within the carcas of the building,  and I opted to stop on my travels and pick some of them up, drop them, examine the artwork, pocketed a couple of nice ones, including skill magazines, and I spent about 20 minutes doing this, great fun it was.

Now, I'm not sure if such a pile would have existed in 'vanilla TTW', if it would have, without this mod, I would have fleetingly exited the building, nothing to see here, move on. Book A is the same as book B, and when you think about how many times a player could stop to examine, as I did, on a playthrough, it shows how cool this mod is. You've added major game time plus a much needed diversity by adding this to the game. Most people's way of adding game time would be to drop 80 mercs into some bunker tunnels. Book collecting FTW! Thank you. :)

I can't remember but I think

I can't remember but I think in the ruins before reaching the elevator (to go down and meet the outcasts in the underground) there are several desks and bookcases and there are some books around. I didn't had any piles of books around the wastelands, only a couple of books where I thought it would make sense (for example check the meresti station vance's room, I added two vampire related books there although you can still find those books randomly on the world too) .

Thank you for your kind words

I made this mod exactly because of the boring books ingame, I wanted more variety, I wanted to be able to decorate my player house with nice looking books .

Now I need to get out of my lazy mood and make more destroyed/ruined/burned books, I think I only have 8 different ones and that is very little compared to like 50 pre-war books .

Thanks for looking into it,

Thanks for looking into it,  Yeah my current companion is Brisa, and I think a few of the others I will get later have the same feature.

Normally I don't worry about it except they start the companions at like 10 skill points, and book training only gets one point per skill book, and 10 points per level, so without the pre-war book points, trying to train multiple companions into average (65-75) range of skills would be really really tough.

Anyways, Thanks again, and its possible the Scribe yearling stuff might actually be the same system the other companion mods are using,  i'll get the updated version and test it.  If the issue is resolved i'll let you know.

I tried the updated version,

I tried the updated version, with the updated Brisa, and the issue still persists.  I'm going to drop a note of the issue on the Brisa thread and see if we can get the info on what the companion mod is looking for to get the skill point. That should help since it might be easier to add the lines into the Brisa mod if they are specific for each companion, if however they are generic, then some kind of fix for this mod makes more sense (less work, better compat).

Thanks.

I downloaded the Brisa mod

I downloaded the Brisa mod from this site and took a quick look, I am still not sure how the books work, I found a list with the names of the game skill books and a different list with mentions to pre-war books but it had only two of them and IIRC there is four of them. I think if the fix between my mod and Brisa's (and other companion mods that use the same system) is to add all of my books to a list like that, then it has to be done in the companion mod and not on mine, since that list exists on that mod.

I will still experiment with add some of my books to that list and see how it works, but I am really without time at the moment :(

you can put formlists on

you can put formlists on other formlists iirc, so the easy fix would be to take your book formlist and add it to the companion's book formlist, right?

Got this answer:

lustephelon wrote:

rickerhk,  Thanks for bringing this mod to TTW.  Having her along adds lots of color and good backup especially early in the game.

I have encountered a issue when using it with the Reading is learning mod.   That mod uses a script to pretty up all the books including the pre-war books.  When it does this it seems to remove most the books that should be usable to upgrade her skills.

I'd like to ask you to take a look and see which pre-war book IDs Brisa uses to learn skills and perhaps post them and the location that references them so we can determine the problem and the best way to fix this.

Thanks for any assistance.

There are so many pre-war books in FNV compared to FO3. So I did it like I did my Wendy Gilbert mod. Only the green pre-war books can raise her skills. I guess I forgot to mention that anywhere. They are 000C5D24 and 000FC9BC.

Do you have a link to that mod?

Edit - just found it. Cool mod! The books that will raise her skills are Atom Curtain and The Synthetic Man.

I just made from scratch my

I just made from scratch my own version of some skill books, I tried to make them similar to the originals so people can easily identify them in-game but still added a bit of a personal artistic expression:

I would like feedback about them, I did a spine for the Duck and Cover too but for some reason whatever I do it appears upside down even if I change it, makes me confused why.

Edit: Added another Skill book cover, this time for the Guns and Bullets book.

Edit: Added another Skill book cover, this time for the Lying Congressional Style book and with a spine this time.

Edit: Added another Skill book cover, this time for the Dean's Electronics book, it is a bit too simple for my taste but it was harder and took more time than it looks like (and I thought it would).

I put the overly manly man meme guy there in the cover just to "spice" things up .

I will look into making some books/magazines with other meme characters later and see if they can "fit" in future covers .

@TJ - I said that in public chat a while ago when people were talking about the guns they use in TTW, I thought it was a nice quote that would be appropriate .

Wait. Did I see a "zen" book?

Umm.

ZEN IS FLIPPING AWESOME CAUSE IM THE MASTER OF IT 226 TIMES OVER!

YAH!

Anyway, for the flamethrower book you could make it increase your fire damage by %5 or something like a perk similar to the pyromaniac perk? For the Zen book you could make it increase your jump height or something obligatory like that. Possibly for the Fallout 2 Hintbook make it enter your inventory as a holotape explaining secret Fallout 2 locations to toss people off?

Unfortunately the amazing MCM options are too complicated for me to know anything about them Jax made it and I have no idea how to do anything about it (that is why I keep saying I am not really a modder, I am just good at replacing a few textures and little more). I will have to ask him if he has the time to teach me or explain how he did it so I can try and fix it, but it might take quite some time since I haven't had much free time lately .

I just got the MCM from Nexus and I tried to see if I could find the problem. But it works for me perfectly I get the menu and the options are all there too.

Like CDTalmas suggested try putting MCM esp higher than mods that need it, luckily that will work .

Oh yeah, the site puts underscores automatically for some reason. Well there is no problem with using the underscored one, as long as you don't use both at once it will work fine too, so you have two choices until I release a new version and fix that, you can rename it yourself and remove the underscore replacing it with a space, or you can just get rid of the old one without the underscore and use the underscored one instead (neither of this needs to be done if you have the one with a space from the file 0.6.1, since they are both the same except for the underscore in the name).

Darn, I will take a look.

Darn, I will take a look.

Thanks for reporting .

Oh s***! I seem to have messed up the mod somehow... it seems like for some reason I am using an older version which means I probably lost somehow the most recent version .

Well I will have to go back and redo all the lost work I think and that will take a lot of time and I don't have much time at the moment (have a lot of stuff going, specially having to take care of some documents and my passport)...

So this project is on hold for now, sorry about that .
