MacCready

Well I currently have MacCready as a follower. Now I generally do not like using followers unless absolutely necessary for say a quest. And right now I do not have any quest where I'm required to have him follow me so I want to get rid of him. But when I choose the dialog and select the #1 Talk option with him nothing happens. It just drops me out of the dialog menu all together. And since he is essential I can't just kill him. I've edited the fallout.ini with bEssentialTakeNoDamage=0 (hope that is correct) but it doesn't seem to have any effect with him. He just falls and gets back up. So what else can I try to get rid of him?

Dismiss him to a Settlement.

Dismiss him to a Settlement. if you dont pick one before sending him to one he will go back to the third rail

Sam: "The Prison Showers, Gee if these walls could talk!"
Max: "I think it's best if they keep their mouth's shut"

Well I can't just dismiss him

Well I can't just dismiss him. I get the main dialog menu but if I select option 1 talk (or any of the options for that matter) it just dumps me out of the dialog all together.

With the little info we got I

With the little info we got I'd assume a mod conflict. Check your mods for dialog edits with F4Edit.

But wouldn't a mod conflict

But wouldn't a mod conflict affect dialog with other NCPs other than just MacCready which I don't have? The only mod I run that has anything to do with dialog is Full Dialog Interface which I've been running from the time it was released. I also did try uninstalling the mod as well as disabling all of my mods and I still had the issue with the dialog not working correctly.

Anyway I've decided to actually start a new game and do some game play things differently so I'm not concerned with this issue at this time. I'll see if I have the problem when I get to MacCready during this play thru.

I dunno cat, isn't it just as

I dunno cat, isn't it just as likely that you installed a mod that gives Piper one of those clown faces or something equally silly and it in fact has a dirty dialog edit? The only way to know is to open your mod list in xEdit and go through all your mods looking for dialog edits. I dunno where any of you guys got the idea that if you ignore issues like this they'll go away, that's not how Bethesda rolls.

You could try and restore

You could try and restore your dialogue/interface files, as Beth keeps changing them every patch.
