Hardcore Helper 2.0

Original description by shittakaburi:

Oh, I'm hungry again. Let me stop fighting this radscorpion and look at my wrist. Now do I feel like Potato Crisps or Brahmin Wellington? Nom...Nom...Nom... Back to the radscorpion, take that and that, you foul bastard! I'll punch you in your...What? Now I'm thirsty? Dammit. Stop fighting the radscorpion, look at my wrist...All I have is dirty water? Fine, whatever - Gulp, gulp, gulp! Back to the radscor- Now, I'm irradiated?! Fuuuuuuu... There has to be a better way! Well, now there is. Building on pre-War RobCo technology, the Followers of the Apocalypse present the Hardcore Helper! A wonderful, fantastic, glorious bit of technomagic heaven that, once purchased, will automatically eat, drink, RadAway, Rad-X, and/or caffeinate you when necessary.

- Works only in Hardcore Mode, of course. -

------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

I've released Hardcore Helper 2.0 with full TTW support, and shittakaburi kindly gave access to the original mod entry http://www.nexusmods.com/newvegas/mods/44551/?.

What's new:

  • Hardcore Helper 2.0 is no longer sold by vendors and is available from the beginning.
  • Food consumables are indexed and sorted automatically (as of v2.1, no more initial freezes).
  • The options menu works directly from PipBoy.
  • Supports bare FNV, any DLC, TTW and any mod, adding more consumables, without hard dependencies. Load order does not matter.
  • Requires latest NVSE and JIP.

The mod detects all consumables in the game and sorts them in this order:

  • Food, not included in any recipe, sorted by radiation damage, starting from the cleanest.
  • MRE (from Lonesome Road, ignored if not found).
  • Salient Green (from Old World Blues, ignored if not found).
  • All remaining food, sorted by radiation damage.

The sorted list will be cached and automatically updated if a number of your mods changes. If played with a scripted rebalance mod, which only changes attributes of consumables, you may need to press the "Reset index" in the HH options menu. Otherwise, this button can be ignored.

TTW Version Compatibility:

v2.9

A wonderful, fantastic,

Hmmm, I do understand why some may want this, and great work/effort offering this.

But I'm not so sure about the major feature auto feed/drink thing.  Does it model a tube going up your nose and into your stomach to deliver the required needs?  Being facetious here...

Unless I'm not getting something, why play hardcore if you don't want the inconvenience of that aspect of game play?

I think it would be more

I think it would be more realistic and fun if you couldn't eat or drink in combat. In fact, make two levels of difficulty - the "easy" level disables eating and drinking in combat, and the "hardcore" level disables your pipboy during combat. Now THAT would be fun!

There is a hard hardcore like
There is a hard hardcore like you describe. It's called self-control. Just don't do it if you want more challenge. No need to script it, it's a single player game

While that may be true, it doesn't keep people from making mods that all they do is enforce self-control. Prime example: fast travel. While you could simply use self-control to never fast travel, there are still DOZENS of mods that disable fast travel in all Bethesda games. What I described would be a similar mod.
