The GOG versions do work with the current release

I tried it because I was curious what it would say about my GOG versions. I was shocked that not only did it auto-detect both games, but, it went through the full install process as well, and I am playing TTW through the GOG new vegas. Also, why does a thread get bumped on edits?

v2.9

How did you manage to get it

How did you manage to get it to work?  I tried NMM first since its what I'm most comfortable with even though its not recommended, and of course it crashed.  I then tried FOMM and wow that software is garbage, it crashed whenever it tried to absolutely anything, and when trying to launch FNV Vanilla, it tried to open Steam.  So I went with Mod Organizer, and was able to install everything correctly but whenever I try to launce NVSE through MO, FNV crashes.   I really don't want to go through the hassle of a manual install on this bitch, since there's so many other patches and mods I wanted to install as well.  What mod manager did you use to install it, or did you do a manual installation?

You used the wrong old

You used the wrong old version of FOMM.

If the game crashes then you also did something wrong.

You should start your own topic in troubleshooting and provide the information we request so we have something to go on.

Thanks for the comment Roy,

Thanks for the comment Roy, unfortunately I was using the latest (v0.14.11.12) version of FOMM, and I installed the FOMODs correctly with MO.  The problem arises whenever I try to launch the game with MO, even with all mods deactivated.  I'm wondering if MO doesn't like the GOG version.  Also, FOMM does not play well with the GOG version since it always tries to launch through Steam, and since it crashes when the Settings button is clicked (this is a known bug on the Github) I can't try to change how it launches (if that option even exists in the Settings). I've added a post to the Help Desk topic as you suggested.

You DO know that you're not

You DO know that you're not supposed to launch the game from FOMM? Right? It even tells you not to do so if you try, but will let you if you insist. FOMM is ONLY for installing and activating/deactivating mods. Always launch the game via the NVSE launcher.

And MO simply doesn't work well (at all) with FO3 or FONV. It's pretty much just meant for Skyrim. The last time I asked about FO3 with MO over at the Nexus, they ignored me. It's all Skyrim in the MO discussion.

Yeah. Same here. I have used

Yeah. Same here. I have used MO with New Vegas for years. No problems at all, except when I do something stupid. The software is not the problem, I guarantee it. As for FOMM, I think you should trust Roy's judgment.

MO won't work for me *shrug*.

MO won't work for me *shrug*.

Yeah don't launch the game through the mod manager, there is 0 reason to do that unless you use MO.

Vulchor,

Vulchor,

I remember when I first installed TTW, I also had a problem with FOMOD borking out when creating extremely large archives for the NV side.

I just ran the installer, but didn't create the large FOMODS files. Then  I created a folder that MO would "see" and moved the newly created files manually there; instead of packing them with the installer, them unpacking them using MO.  When I start MO up, it looks for folders where it thinks mods should be (where you configured them to be installed by MO, and where MO unpacks them), and it'll pick up the folder you created outside of MO just like it would a folder it created itself.

Not sure if that'll help, but good luck with getting everything setup and working they way you want it; happy modding!

I haven't got the GOG version

I haven't got the GOG version to check but are you sure it isn't also loading NVSE automatically like Roy's patch does?

In that case you would run FalloutNV from MO and not NVSE.

Also MO works perfectly well with both FO3 and FNV, any issues anyone has should be examined in STEP, not Nexus. STEP has been the official MO support forum since the beginning. Also Nexus is a cesspit!

Nexus isn't all bad, but you

Nexus isn't all bad, but you have to be VERY CAREFUL what you say and to whom. They're ban happy when they aren't ignoring you, but it IS the leading place to get Bethesda game mods... unfortunately.

My FOMM "run game button"

My FOMM "run game button" (top right) reads as Launch NVSE, so I assume it starts the game through NVSE, dunno if I had to set that up or FOMM already came/configured itself that way.

STEP was unable to help me

STEP was unable to help me with my issues, I tried on more than one occasion to use MO and it failed in the same way each time. Maybe it doesn't like SSD's or my version of Windows. It probably doesn't work correctly if the account is administrator I'm thinking, but I did find that post from tannin about right pane order.

GoG version is 4GB aware, it does not load nvse.

Lets not bash other sites OK.

That's one of the things I've

That's one of the things I've been addressing here this past month; coding and idea that's in-between MO and NMM to help with modding. It'll cover quite a few bases initially (at least all the ones I can think of- if anyone else can think of something, I'll add it in if I can) and have a few independent CLI back-end programs that might be useful to others as stand-alone apps.

It'll be a few weeks before it's ready to tinker around with, but overall in the scope I'm working with, it'll be awhile before I get everything in it I'm wanting to cover.

Well thanks for the

Well thanks for the suggestions guys and information.  I managed to get the exe to launch after a manual install, but if I launch with nvse I get a crash.  I guess I can forgo using MCM and other mods until an updated version of NVSE is released, but can TTW be played without NVSE?

I haven't looked at the

I haven't looked at the scripts, but from what I've seen posted so far, probably not- though Roy is better equipped to answer this than me. NVSE adds new script functions that might be compiled into the TTW scripts themselves outside of the MCM. If they are, either the script won't function as intended, or, if a function requires a pointer to something, let's say an object in the game, it could result in a CTD. Though, it might be worth a run just to see what happens, that way you could relate the effect to cause. It really helps later when tracking down similar, but unrelated modding problems.

Wait, are you saying the NVSE

Wait, are you saying the NVSE won't work with the GOG version of New Vegas? The GOG team explicitly said it should.

The GOG team did say it

The GOG team did say it should work, the NVSE people said otherwise initially, but they now say it should work.  I've used the latest stable and the new beta version (5.1b1) and the New Vegas exe crashes when launched with the NVSE loader.  I haven't had any chances to try a complete reinstall since 6/7 as I spent so much time trying to troubleshoot where the issue comes from.  Again, this only happens when I have Tale of Two Wastelands installed though.

@vulchor

@vulchor

Im using MO, using the same mod loadout I was using on the steam version and it worked for me first try.

What Im starting to wonder is did you redirect MO to your new GoG install and did you remake the nvse launcher shortcut that you can make through MO because if you didnt they would still be pointing to the steam version of FNV.

What I did to make sure it was working correctly is that I went into the FNV steam version folder and renamed the FalloutNV.exe to FalloutNV.exe.orig. This way MO couldnt detect it any longer then when I opened MO it said it couldnt find FalloutNV.exe and then it showed a selection for where the GoG version was installed and I clicked that then I deleted the old MO-NVSE shortcut and made a new one and it started right up.

Also it is a TTW version as well.
