Game is crashing a lot! Help!

Alright, so this is my first time doing TTW, however I have modded both FO3 and FNV in the past several times. I was able to get out of vault 101 before errors occurred, but then as soon as i got out my game started crashing a lot.

First few times, I got an error saying "not enough memory", deactivated, deleted, then reinstalled the 4GB patch as well as I edited all the ini files that I'm aware of, with the iNumHWThreads=2. This seemed to help for a little.

But then the game would crash most times I enter a new area, regardless of size (i.e. small houses outside of vault 101). From here I disabled all mods in the load order (I am using FOMM), but this feels like it honestly made it worse, now it crashes basically every time I enter a new area. Not entirely sure what to do, do I have to completely deactivate them in the package manager part of FOMM and then reactivate one by one? Do I need to completely uninstall Fallout new vegas and then recreate the TTW files again and start from scratch one at a time? (if so should I start the game and get out of vault 101 before adding mods? I really would like to avoid this but if i have to I will. Also I used LOOT to determine Load Order which could be the issue, however if that were the case wouldn't it not matter once I disabled all the mods from the load order? Would really appreciate some help. Thanks!

Try using NVAC (New Vegas

Try using NVAC (New Vegas Anti-Crash). Disable the auto saves too. Those tend to crash the game for some people, they also tend to corrupt save files.

Already have that installed,

Already have that installed, I think, it shows in the package manager. should it show up in load order too (there are several mods I have that don't show up in load order, but with texture mods, that's normal cause it just replaces textures right?)? and yeah the auto-saves are all already off. is using quicksave a bad idea or no? I cant remember

From the initial tests I did.

From the initial tests I did... if your using lots of large texture packs you'll need to use ENBoost also (along with 4GB patcher), otherwise you'll get out of memory crashes; be sure to change the ini for enblocal.ini to 'reduce system memory usage' to true. Without that, your game will startup pushing the 3.5gb virtual memory limit (increased by the 4gb patcher from 2gb), and crash. With it, it'll hang around the 2gb mark and should remain stable unless NVAC is reporting any 'hits' which could be indicative of a bad, missing, or improperly formatted asset.

We know it's a bad idea to

We know it's a bad idea to uninstall plug-ins from an existing playthrough. (Don't know if Gopher edits his saves or if he just likes living dangerously.) I'd suggest loading up a minimal list of mods, enduring the vault quests once more, and then saving as soon as you exit. At that point, you should be able to safely test mod combinations without having to worry about attending that stupid birthday party, ever again.

Since you are new to this

Since you are new to this have you been converting any fallout 3 mods you use with the TTW conversion script?

Also get rid of the CAGE 1.9.3.2.esp I just read where its incompatible but the author did make a version for TTW so get that one instead

That was one of the things I did right off. I have a bare save as an adult, and a bare save with COTW as a kid. Then I "start" from the door out of the cave leading to the vault where you get your last chance to change the character. The only thing you miss at that point are "starter packs" added into the vault itself.

I guess I'll start over from

I guess I'll start over from the beginning, but before I start are there any mods that need to be in place from the beginning? or can I just wait to load all of my mods?

I consider a "vanilla"

I consider a "vanilla" install to include DARN and CASM and any patch files. On the non-plugin side of things, NVAC, NVSR (unless you're on W10), and maybe ENB. Most everything else can wait until you've passed the tutorial part of the game.

Is NVSR not usable on Windows

Is NVSR not usable on Windows 10? could that be an issue if I have windows 10? Also, I've never used CASM, does it solve all of the autosave issues in the base game?

You want the first 18 items, in that order, for sure.

Basically, TTW Main Files, TTW Options, TTW Hotfixes and the TTW-specific game hotfixes.

I also included Brisa, because she exits the vault with you.

The last major update before xmas last year broke NVSR and it hasn't yet been resolved. So yes, if your W10 is up-to-date, you probably shouldn't be using NVSR until that is fixed. I know my laptop has this problem.

And you should always turn off all auto saves in the game. CASM adds the ability to make periodic saves and its own form of quick saves that are safe. You can also always use full saves by hitting Esc and clicking Save > New Save.

Sorry I just realized that

Sorry I just realized that the CAGE TTW version is actually by someone else I wasn't paying close enough attention and didn't notice before. That person also fixed a bug with the original.
