FO4 mods on PS4 cancelled

https://bethesda.net/#en/events/game/ps4-mod-update/2016/09/09/199

Personally I thought putting mods on console was a horrible idea from the start. Apparently Sony is even more restrictive than Microsoft, which is a bit surprising really.

Any thoughts or comments?

Wish I could shed a tear. I

Wish I could shed a tear. I guess this will mean that there will be one less group of people who won't be whining about or trying to pirate mods.

I don't know I think it kind

I don't know I think it kind of sad!

Other then the initial drama and mod theft the general XBox public have been fairly nice to me. I was expecting the same from the PS4 people.

Sony is mainly secretive

Sony is mainly secretive/restrictive when it comes to how to program for their consoles. The playstations have all been amazing machines if only Sony would actually show devs HOW to use them. It would be my guess that this aspect is why the mods fell apart

If life is but a test, where's the damn answer key?!?!?

Sony is very protective about

Sony is very protective about their IP, they've always been this way and it's nothing new.

They ARE the ones who primarily developed Macrovision, SecuROM, Rootkits, Cinavia etc...

You have a point. I completely forgot about that rootkit business on their audio CD's back in the day. Bethesda made sure you point the finger directly at Sony for the whole fiasco in their post. I think they are trying to cover their butts in case someone decides to press the issue in the court system. They did pretty much promise modding on the PS4 though. They probably should've worked out the details with Sony before coming out and telling everyone It Just Works!

I didn't say they didn't ask Sony. I said they didn't work out the details with Sony. If they had bothered to do that before announcing mods for PS4 they would've realized that it wasn't going to work out and flat out said the PS4 wasn't getting mods and people should blame Sony. Instead they lead the PS4 community on for months with delays and delays before finally giving up and deleting the PS4 mod forums on Bethesda.net. If you want to stick up for Bethesda that's fine but they can't be absolved of all responsibility for the cluster they created.

This isn't a realistic view of how companies do PR. Are we blaming Bethesda for lacking in their clairvoyance department?

No I'm blaming them for opening their mouths when they hadn't bothered to get the details worked out with Sony. Their PR department should've kept their mouth shut.

It turns out that marketing

It turns out that marketing (a fair-sized chunk of what any company does) works in a way completely opposite to the high bar which you think needs to be set before a company can announce anything.

It turns out Bethesda's

It turns out Bethesda's marketing department doesn't know what's going on half the time, that's been evidenced on many occasions now. Particularly from Pete Hines himself making obnoxious or incorrect statements.

The problem is, if anyone purchased the PS4 version of the game (rather than the PC or Xbox version) by Bath's promise of "mod will be available for PS4 versions, can they sue Bath or request for a refund by that false claim/ad ?

With society this day and age you can sue for anything. Winning said suit would be unlikely as things change multiple times between PR and fruition of developments and since no actual "contract" per se had been issued it is a "buyer beware" aspect.
