Fallout 4 Mod List 2017 - Complaints and Solutions

Here are some of the mods I've found so far to fix common complaints about Fallout 4 (last update: March 5, 2017)

If you have any suggestions please post them and I will add them to the list.

  • What you will see on this list: mods that fix complaints and fit in with the game
  • What you won't see on this list: silly mods, adult mods, new items/locations/quests, and every possible retexture (I have a small list to get you started)

You can install mods manually but a lot of the mods have installation scripts so you can customize the mod as you install it.  I highly recommend Nexus Mod Manager at this point for 90% of users, which will be relaunched soon, incorporating the features of Mod Organizer.  You might also want to try using LOOT to sort your load order automatically.

In these lists you will see this icon which means I have personally tested the mod and it worked.

In these lists you will see this icon which means I have personally tested the mod and it worked.

I have not tested all of these myself. Some of these may mess up your game, who knows.

To save a named save before trying a mod, open the console and type "save nameofsave" so you can easily find the pre-mod savegame in your list of saves.

I highly recommend reading the instructions for each mod, AND reading the comments on the mod.

My input lag fix

My input lag fix, also fixed micro stuttering for me. Side effect is tearing but that doesn't bother me.

iPresentInteveral=0

Limit the framerate in your driver to 60.

well as with skyrim, FO4 key

well as with skyrim, FO4 key binding is an utter joke!

I can get the game somewhat playable with Auto Hotkey but that still has it's own issues.

That Skyrim keybind file I passed you 100 years ago allowed every single key (mouse or otherwise) to be bound to whatever you want. Skyrim was in fact the *most* customizable of any Beth game ever. Lets hope FO4 winds up the same way, though I hear it's going to be more complicated this time around.

I had to change that

I had to change that parameter because as new installation it was capped at 30 for me. I've read around that it happens randomly, didn't find a real reason.

However it didn't solve the huge random stutter I experience, if someone has some clue it would be wonderful

(I also tried windowed borderless and reduced details)

EDIT: I was referring to RoyBatty comment, but I failed to quote it

I don't generally use NMM but they did release a beta version that has FO4 support. I haven't tried the mod managers linked in this thread but the NMM Beta seemed to work ok when I gave it a try. NMM is another option if some folks would rather use it.

Thanks for this awesome list.

Thanks for this awesome list.  I'm trying to limit my first couple playthroughs as Vanilla as possible, but some of the gameplay changes just either annoyed me or didn't make sense.  Plus making the game look better and perform better is an awesome thing too.

I would also recommend Shadow Boost which changes the distance shadows are rendered in real time to try to keep the game at a certain FPS that the user wants.  Gopher has an awesome video that shows how it works.

P.A.M.S. is also great for Power Armor users.  You really feel like you're in a heavy and powerful piece of armor.

Maybe you can add a little

Maybe you can add a little mod I wrote My HUD.

It makes changes to the user interface to make it more PC friendly.

Oh and another mod No Limb Regen

It makes it so your limbs no longer automatically regenerate after 30 seconds. Hardcore version adds first aid kits(act like doctor's bags from Fallout NV). It also uses some of the edits TJ made to leveled lists.

Thanks

Ssex is completely outdated

Ssex is completely outdated and the support for it from other settlement mods will be dropped soon. In addition, the mod was made well before FO4Edit, using Snip, it's still a chaotic mess, and when removed has a chance of busting the save files. I'd recommend removing it from this list and only listing the other settlement mods.

Another warning goes towards using too many crafting mods - they seem to share a common keyword pool, so any mod that comes after the said pool is exhausted will have it's menus borked, or simply won't show up in the menus. Be wary of the crafty!

Actually, I just downloaded

Actually, I just downloaded SSex; the report is inaccurate. As of the 2.5 patch SSex was renamed Safe SSex as it was remade entirely in FO4Edit, and there's even a patch out there for the Settlement Keywords mod so it can/will be compatible. The latest version of Homemaker also/still includes a patch for SSex right in the installer.

The mod remains a horror of categorizing. And, with this version, Homemaker drops support for Ssex (which means that the bigger mod, up to date and including twice more objects and sets will no longer work with it). SK already dropped it, and in the light of the keyword cap, anyone using more than one crafting station mod will need both SK and the other keyword resource mod. SO please, don't tell me of inaccurate reports. For weeks Ssex author refused to acknowledge that his mod was corrupting saves (before porting it to Fo4Edit). Even after porting, there's a reproducible CTD in doors sections, and several users removing the mod experienced game corruption and CTD on save load.

tl;dr ssex is bad and using it will f. your game up. Recommending it is bad practice.

Yes, I did some research this weekend and I agree.  If it's not compatible with Settlement Keywords you probably shouldn't use it.  Same goes with armor/weapons mods and AWKCR.

Big update today based on my mod exploring this weekend.

On the workshop front you can

On the workshop front you can add

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/3470/? increases power output

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8709/? fixes lightbulb issue

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/8361/? adds a lot of highly functional blocks (you can put this instead of stackable foundations and other DDproduction mods)

http://www.nexusmods.com/fallout4/mods/1215/? for a better minimap

Expanded settlements Building has an uncategorized version which works with SK by default.

Weapon racks has the default version working with SK without issues. Proppable houses works fine with SK.

I've used lots of FO4 mods, and I use most of the ones you've listed that I care about. I wouldn't say that "More armor slots" is outdated, it just doesn't do as much as Armorsmith. I know that lots of mods require Armorsmith, but even more aren't fully compatible with it, and Armorsmith changes all kinds of stuff besides simply allowing you to wear armor in all the slots. I wouldn't say Armorsmith superseded it, it's just a different option if you don't like all the changes Armorsmith made. I still use it and I don't intend to "update" to Armorsmith, well, ever, really. Reading through the comments on More Armor Slots, I'm definitely not alone in this, over half the comments there say that they think Armorsmith does way too much extra crap.

It doesn't REALLY matter obviously, but I'd suggest if you're willing to move "More Armor Slots" up to the recommendations and include a little disclaimer saying it's no longer supported, but a valid option if Armorsmith does too much for your tastes.

I didn't use DEF_INV but DEF

I didn't use DEF_INV but DEF_HUD lets you edit the main HUD with Adobe Flash or your web browser. it's fully configurable and simple to use unlike trying to edit the .swf files with something like JPEXS.

I have the latest versions I will send them off to you.

Forgot there are links up but there unofficial and unsupported.

DEF_HUD

DEF_INV_4

They come from Really Confused over on the Nexus.

here is how I have my main

here is how I have my main HUD set up with DEF_FUD. I hate the quick Constantine menu but it's not as bad with it in the middle also everything is much smaller and a little more organized in my opinion.

I can't play without this mod just like DarnUI and those damn fools chased the author away!!!!!!

I did try the latest update but rolled back because my custom edits for my SouthPaw UI didn't work with it. I was going to try DEF_INV but I'm not sure if it will work with the older version I'm using. And Well now there is no one to ask.

DEF_INV_4 does work with DEF

DEF_INV_4 does work with DEF_HUD v1.0.4 and I could see it being nice in the long run. Again, Fully configurable with F4SE support for Custom Control Maps. This mod really could have trued into the next Darn!

I uninstalled it only because I already have my own Custom Pipboy.swf's and I use Better Item sorting (Which it also supported!!!)

I just figured what I had already worked and this doesn't sound like it will be updated again.  But who knows maybe the sting of NOOB will go away and the mod will be uploaded again. We can only hope.

Edit: I do get why they got fed up they posted that within a day of the 1.4 update they received over 200 PM's bitching that the mods broke saves. Only 2 were real bug reports, all others were fail to RTFM.

I myself have been using DEF_HUD from the day of release and I even modded it for myself to work with my custom UI and have never had an issue no matter what Beth has done in an update.

So much drama.  Sad to see a good mod disappear.  I can't imagine playing without those mods.

The author should just host them somewhere else, on another site, where comments and PM's are not possible.  Similar to what they do with the script extender hosting on silverlock.org.

I particularly like the support notes:

"This rerelease is being provided as-is.  This mod is not being monitored or necessarily supported by Neanka.  You can asking for assistance, however, do not expect an answer by Neanka.  If you cannot get it to work right, then instead of complaining about it, uninstall and move on."

This is kind of a nice one if

This is kind of a nice one if you want to do any settlement building and are annoyed with objects not clipping the ground or being able to be placed close to each other.

I can't really call it a mod because it's just an auto hotkey script to be used while in the console. What it does is change the inputs for the Num Pad to do a "modpos" command for selected objects. You can move and rotate in any direction clip the ground or other objects. it is also set to move in increments of 1 or 5 units at a time so you can do precise placement.
