Actual hardcore mode?

I saw this article on Survival mode. http://fallout.wikia.com/wiki/Survival_mode

Anyone played on it? Is it as enjoyable as Hardcore mod on Fallout New Vegas? Any words of caution before trying it out? I want to play up to the Institute on a harder difficulty and this looks like what I`m looking for.

The problems I heard are

The problems I heard are about not letting you save unless you sleep, and since the game seems prone to crashes... Well people told me it is not fun to play for an hour and then lose all of that because they couldn't save and the game crashed.

I also heard that there are mods that help with some of the survival mode problems. So I think you might be able to customize that mode to your liking using mods.

This mod says to fix it? But

This mod says to fix it? But it is a swf file? Since when did Flash movie files become a main part of Fallout 4? Does that mean Actionscript is used in Fallout 4 technically?

I have played through F4 and

I have played through F4 and all relevant DLC using modded survival mode - Without mods, survival is basically unplayable because of crashes killing the game progress too much. During the playthrough my character died a few times, yes, but the game crashed to the desktop perhaps like couple dozen times - Thats like almost 10 crashes for each death. I'd have no problem losing some game progress because the character dies, but a random CTD eating up hours of game progress IMHO is simply unacceptable.

As the very minimum in the way of supporting mods for Survival difficulty, I would recommend 'Survival Quick Save - No Sleep Till Bedtime', 'Survival Mode Console Enabler' and 'Institute Teleportation for Survival Mode'.

Console enabler is essential for allowing debugging problems, adjusting FOV ingame or for taking screenshots with free camera, even if you do not use it for any cheating.

Institute Teleportation is essential for staying true for the F4 games own in-game lore. Default survival mode teleportation restrictions on the sole survivor make no sense (Only 1 map target - CIT ruins - outside of the institute is available in vanilla survival to the player character - who might even become the director of the institute - But all other institute personnell including lowest of the low ranking gen 1 synths get routinely teleported all over the map during the game.)

Branching off from the main topic, in addition I would also recommend other basic mods like better dialogue text interface where you can actually see what your character would actually say instead of just 'Sarcastic' or something else way too generic. This is a basic must to have for anyone playing Fallout 4, with any difficulty.. For other stuff, see the most excellent TTW forum thread on how to solve many other F4 issues with mods.
